Jishudō was officially announced on February 24 2024 via LinkedIn. See the announcement below.
Dear LinkedIn Community,
Although I've avoided sharing personal posts on LinkedIn, today I wish to make an exception and share the launch of a martial arts program that has been a labour of love for me - as well as the product of a long and personal journey.
As some of you know, my mental health was severely and adversely affected following my mother's death in the summer of 2018. Both my professional and personal life was impacted by the darkness that followed my mother's passing. But thru it all, three things helped me traverse the darkness - the love of my family, deep friendships both inside and outside of work - and my martial arts practice.
Many might be surprised by a claim that martial arts can protect one through the darkest times. However, during my personal journey I discovered how martial arts can be as much about protecting one's self from threats in the world as from the darkest inner battles. Almost five years into this journey, I recognized that I had been cultivating something special - a martial arts practice for mental and emotional wellness. Leveraging my nearly 20 years of martial arts practice, I felt the need to outline and document how and why my martial arts practice contributed to mental and emotional wellness - and how these insights could be shared with others who might benefit from such a practice.
Today, I'm excited to share the result of this journey - a martial art for mental and emotional wellness program I've named Jishudō - the Way of Self Mastery. I'm also excited to share that I've partnered with the Mindfulness at Centrepointe Centre in Ottawa to offer this unique program starting in the Spring of 2024. Thank you in advance for your support, your interest, your questions and your feedback.
Sincerely,
Dan
